Jackson and Harrison – out checking cows |
It’s a new year and a new decade and I have decided that it is the perfect time to make some significant changes in my life. In 2019 we sold a group of cows to Todd and Stacey Manuel who operate Lazy Moon Ranch in Southside, B.C. We sold another small group to Stephen Hooke in Lumby, B.C. This spring the remainder of the cows left the farm – some to Poplar Meadows in Houston and some to Lucas and Amanda Muehlen in Vanderhoof. We have 5 yearling heifers left. We will be breeding these heifers for a February 1, 2021 calving start and they will be available as bred heifers anytime after June 1, 2020. These heifers represent the culmination of 20 years of selective breeding and informed purchases. It has always been our desire to create females uniquely adapted to our environment. These are thick, heavy boned females who will have superior milk production and wonderful maternal instincts. These females are very well adapted for the tough grazing conditions we subject them to – our cows rarely had the opportunity to graze cultivated fields – they spent the majority of their time out in the bush working for their meals. Their ability to wean out impressive calves in the fall as well as maintain their own condition, earned their right to stay in the herd. Check out the 2020 Sales tab and have a look or, better yet, come and visit us on the farm and see the heifers in person. |
Please feel free to call, email or text if you have any questions or would like more information. I look forward to hearing from you. | Harry & Lynn at home in Fort St James, B.C |
